Factor in parking, walking to set, and if you don’t know where you’re going make sure to give yourself extra time. If you’re early you’re on time, if you’re on time you’re late, and if you’re late you’re on real thin ice.
Do Be proactive // Don’t be on your phone
You don’t want to be caught scrolling on Instagram or Tik Tok when you could be working. Even if you don’t have a specific task you can be proactive. Take out trash before it overflows, constantly swap out walkie bricks on the charger, get coffee orders, that sort of thing. There’s always something you can be doing, and unless it’s for work or an emergency, it’s seen as very unprofessional to be on your phone.
Do Listen to your walkie // Don’t turn your walkie off
Unless you’re leaving for the day, never turn your walkie off. That includes when you’re at lunch or even using the restroom. You should always be listening so you know what’s going on, and can respond as fast as possible. PRO TIP: if you feel like you have to respond while in the bathroom, just say “10-1” and then when you’re done “go for me”. Don’t actually try to talk in the bathroom. Everyone can tell.
Do Be on your feet // Don’t sit around and wait
You want to be standing around near set, ready to jump in at any moment. You don’t want to be seen sitting down waiting for something to do. When people see you eggar to jump in, they’ll give you the chance. By staying on your feet, you’ll be more helpful, appreciated, and professional.
DO Keep a positive attitude // Don’t complain
Just like in life, you can always find something to complain about. But if you’re always complaining, who’s going to want to hire you again? Set is full of long hours and hard jobs, so someone who keeps a positive attitude and lifts the energy up is ALWAYS appreciated. If you’re a positive presence on set, people will want to hire you back. Plus, you’ll have a better experience anyways.
